· Overview of substances in this group
· Risks & Harm Reduction
· Gym culture
· The role of needle exchanges
|2||Drugs Awareness||Covers a wide range of legal and illegal substances including alcohol and so called ‘legal highs’. The course explores:
· common issues related to substance use
· cycle of change
|2||Alcohol Awareness||The course focuses on alcohol and covers:
· the historical context of alcohol
· how alcohol is absorbed into the body
· myths and assumptions
· recreational use, binge drinking and dependence
|2||Novel Pyschoactive Substances||The course explores:
· the range of substances that are currently available.
· the legal framework
· the debate around criminalisation
· the radically changing way people access mind altering substances
· the effects, using the drug wheel.
|2||Substance Misuse||Covers a wide range of legal and illegal substances including alcohol and so called ‘legal highs’
The course explores:
|3||Motivational Interviewing||The course teaches the technique of motivational interviewing. This approach is particularly useful for those working with people who are ambivalent or lacking in motivation to change.||2 days||£60|
|2||Peer Mentoring and Support||Aimed at people looking to develop a helping role in the field of healthcare and addiction, and suitable for those with ‘lived experience’ of addiction, the course is designed to offer support in developing a peer mentoring scheme. It covers;
· the role of supervision
|3||Tackling Substance Misuse||A more in depth and regulated course, it draws on current best practice to explore and identify useful psychosocial and prescribing interventions and; provides an opportunity explore different approaches and philosophies when tackling addiction.
