Scott’s hiking challenge for the Recovery Games

A Doncaster man who works at a specialist rehabilitation and detoxification unit in Balby is dusting off his walking boots and hitting the road to fundraise for this year’s Recovery Games, an annual event which celebrates people in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction.

Scott Lane, Programme Recovery Worker at New Beginnings on Marshall Avenue, will be hiking non-stop from Leeds to Skipton on Saturday, June 2 a distance of 26 miles in one day.

Scott said: “I wanted to do something positive to support the games which are an important part of the recovery calendar.  People in recovery face many challenges and these games give them an opportunity to celebrate their achievements and show that recovery from addiction is possible with the right support around them.

“The aching bones and sore feet will be well worth it. I know that every step will contribute towards making this year’s Recovery Games happen and be a great success.”

To prepare for his fundraising challenge Scott is using his spare time before work, at lunch breaks and after work to walk as much as he can and boost his fitness levels in readiness for the big day.

The Recovery Games are held each year in August at Hatfield outdoor activity water sports centre. Teams consisting of people who are in recovery, their family and friends and also staff working in drug and alcohol services, complete together in healthy gladiator style activities and a spectacular ‘colour splash’ finale.

The Recovery Games are completely funded from sponsorship and fundraising activities. If you would like to support Scott in his hiking challenge please go to:
