Doncaster drug and alcohol service addresses conference

A group of representatives from Doncaster’s drug and alcohol service have attended a conference at Sheffield Hallam University to share their real life experiences of recovery from drug and alcohol addiction.

Staff, peer support workers and volunteers from Aspire Drug and Alcohol Service attended the university’s Substance Misuse Conference to deliver workshops to social work students on a range of subjects including parental substance misuse and the role of medication in assisting recovery.

Aspire Service Manager Stuart Green said: “We were delighted to be involved in the conference.

“It was a great opportunity for us to showcase the fantastic services and support we provide in Doncaster – and meet keynote speaker Professor David Best, who is a leading figure in the field of addiction and criminology research.

“Our team was able to offer a unique insight into treatment services and recovery from a hands-on perspective, providing students with the vital knowledge they will need when they are newly qualified and working with children, families and communities affected by addiction.”

He added: “We also built some valuable reciprocal links with Sheffield Hallam University, which will deliver opportunities for placements, employment, education and training for students, staff and volunteers in the future.”
